Kitchen tiles should establish a sense of style and elegance in the kitchen.  Outlining the basic design principles of establishing a style for different types of kitchens with tiles, this article helps guide tile buyers in the right direction so creating a chic and contemporary but timeless look!

Although many people think about tiles in a bathroom, it is also very useful to have kitchen wall tiles. You want a kitchen that you do not have to keep re-tiling year after year – these tiles are durable, can look rustic or contemporary and are easy to clean.

Careful consideration should be given when establishing what kind of tiles to fit in your kitchen.Choosing tiles is not as simple as it seems; your silver/chrome or white appliances have to also match the tile design, otherwise you will end up with something that will look out of place for a very long time. The tiles that look good in the display or seem a reasonable price may not match your appliances, so careful thought has to be given to this area before purchasing.Whte used to be the favourite appliance colour, but it’s long been taken over by chrome.

Rustic farmhouse tiles would not look very good in a modern or minimalistic kitchen.  Nor should you opt for Mexican hand painted types, with primary colours, since the two looks will not complement each other but will look like a mismatch or an afterthought, so opt instead for more neutral colours that will accentuate the style of the kitchen and blend into the overall style.

Conversely if you are lucky enough o have a huge farmhouse kitchen with large wooden furniture, then don’t opt for sleek, ultra modern tiles with white and chrome effect, since they too will look out of place. An easily dated kitchen can be given if you use tiles that are too rustic, so beware of this.

If you are concerned that the tiles you like may not be completely suitable, then simply give yourself time to think before you make your final purchase.Do not be rushed in to anything as things very often look different after a day or two has passed.

Opt for the softer shades if your kitchen is small but you want to use mosaic tiles; these can look pretty chic.  Mosaics are best as a feature within a tiled wall, rather than forming the wall itself out of mosaic: that went out of fashion in Roman times!

With these principles in mind, it should be easy to establish a cohesive and co-ordinating style for the tiled areas in your kitchen and the result will be a kitchen that does not date quickly and which still looks contemporary in a few years time.
