What Should An Engagement Ring Cost

Brought to you by affordable diamond solitaire engagement rings.

The most common answer to this question is: what’s your budget, and how much will it mean to your fiancée?

Many couples wouldn’t even think of getting engaged before they having engagement rings, because they are such a powerful symbol of their commitment to each other. For many others it is an investment, not only in each other, but in the new family’s property. One item of wealth that regardless of outcome will be hers and for some is an investment in the future of the bride. Some people find it an irritating and perhaps even dangerous piece of jewelry that is required only by tradition. Couples can differ on what constitutes an affordable engagement ring.

De Beer’s company has long been active in making diamond rings the required ring for engagements and initiated a media blitz that the amount of money spent on a ring should be equal to “two months of the buyer’s income.” Engagement rings were not required before De Beers increased the value of mined diamonds.

Now that you know that you are in a much better place to make decisions together about what kind of engagement ring you want. If you want a larger investment, you may want to spend more than two months of your wages on the rings for your lady.

You can spend substantially more on an investment piece. If the ring is primarily a symbol, though, of loving intentions and faith, then as small an amount as a hundred dollars or so on a semi-precious stone or a good simulated diamond may be completely satisfying to all involved.

If you know what you want to purchase, and are comfortable with the amount you wanna spend, what you should do is check the current prices on stones and gold. With very little time these can be located on the internet.

Your ring is likely to be marked up well beyond those base prices, but knowing the cost of materials gives you a better idea of what is being charged for design, labor, and merchandising.

The point is that an engagement ring is an open choice, with many possible options to suit each couple. Worry more about getting the item you need, not the price. Do not pay more then the ring is worth. Otherwise there is no right or wrong amount if you follow this one rule.

Instead there is a right amount for you, and a wrong amount for you, and any ring, no matter how beautiful, is the wrong ring at the wrong price if it fails to provide the value you are seeking.
