Preparing For A New Baby

You have several months to prepare for your new baby, so don’t make the mistake of waiting until the last minute. You can’t count on the baby coming late because you are not ready. The last thing you want is to have to stop at the store before you go home because you don’t have everything you need.

One of the most obvious things you’ll need to have for your baby is a baby bed. This can be a crib, cradle or bassinet. Many parents like to keep the baby in a cradle or bassinet beside their bed for the first couple months and move him to the crib when he is able to sleep through the night. This makes it easier on mom to get up and take care of the baby during the night because he is right there next to her.

The daily diapers and baby wipes are something you’ll want to stock up on ahead of time. Newborn babies use about twelve to fifteen diapers per day, so it can be very helpful to have a few packages on hand before the baby is born. You may not feel up to running to the store for the first few days, especially if you’ve had a C-section.

You will need many other supplies as well. Of course, you have probably had a lot of fun picking out baby clothes, but you will also need bathing and other supplies. The hospital will probably give you sample sizes of most of these things, though, so it’s not as urgent to buy these things ahead of time. You probably won’t need medicines like baby Tylenol right away, but be sure to buy some before your baby’s first shots.

The Avent breast pump is a good item to have if you are breastfeeding. Even if you are not working or expecting to be away from your baby much, do yourself a favor and get a good breast pump right from the beginning. This will allow you to pump when your breasts are full but baby doesn’t feel like eating, or is sleeping and you don’t want to wake him. Also, pumping excess milk can help you keep up production so that you will be able to breastfeed longer.

You don’t have to get every item before the baby is born, but you definitely need a good car seat. Make sure you get one that is designed for newborns. Not all of them are. Newborn babies need a rear-facing car seat. You might want to get one that converts for use with older babies. They are usually cheaper in the long run.

If you don’t get everything ahead of time, that’s no reason to panic. As long as you have a car seat, diapers and a place for the baby to sleep, you’ll be all right for a few days before you have to go shopping for more supplies.

What are some affordable but comfortable women’s shoes?

I’m looking for dress shoes, but I won’t sacrifice comfort for fashion. I also don’t want to have to wear Sketchers with a dress in order to keep my feet from hurting – I’ve seen some women do this, and we shouldn’t have to be in pain (my rant is that men’s shoes are made for comfort and design, but the majority of women’s shoes are made purely for fashion).
