we’re having a big get together (almost a reunion I guess you could say) for a week at a beach house during the 4th of July. My brothers, parents and I have all moved across the country (well, *they* moved
)
so my parents rented this place that we’re all going to stay at for the week, including my aunt/uncle and my grandmother. There’ll be about 11 adults, a baby, a toddler and a tween. My mom won’t let anyone buy food or supplies, so I figured I’d make a few things to bring and cook there. As of right now the only things I’m making are:
Bacon wrapped dates stuffed with goat cheese
Crescent rolls filled with roasted artichokes, red peppers, garlic and cheese
and Chocolate dipped Oreo Cheesecake bites
As we’re going to be there for a week, I’d like to cook a few more things, or bring some precooked ‘treats’ with us. I can even bring some basic supplies to make something later in the week.
Any ideas? Thanks!
ps we’re all foodies, and not big dessert people, so I’d like to make a few gourmet snacks, and maybe one other dessert. Thanks!
yes, we will have access to a grill, and a full kitchen, as well as a great are for seafood. We’re in New England, RI to be exact, so fresh seafood is pretty much everywhere

When it comes to my carpet care tips, which do you think is the most important? At the top of the list below is where you’ll find the answer. Use the five other tips as well, and you’ll get years more use from your carpet.
What are the Top Carpet Care Tips?
Always keep your carpet clean. Carpet fibers are cut because of sand and dirt which act like thousands of little razor blades. Damaged carpet stains more easily and removing the stains from it will be more difficult as well. Your carpet will last a lot longer if you vacuum often to remove the dirt.
Use rugs. Rugs can be placed at any entrances as well as outside and inside the front door. They will be able to catch much of the dirt that people bring in on their feet. That means less vacuuming and longer carpet life.
Don’t forget to remove your shoes. Doing this can definitely ensure that your carpet lasts longer. If a nice home with nice carpet is what you have, then people are not usually offended by this policy.
The stains should be properly and quickly cleaned. If you will also be using a cleaning solvent, then you should first apply it to a cloth and work it from the outside of the stain to the center in order to avoid spreading the spot. Apply the cleaner, extract (blot), rinse, extract, and repeat until you can’t get more of the stain out. The solvents should be completely extracted and when you’re done, dry the carpet quickly. If, deep down in the carpet, a stain remains then what you can do is quick dry it to prevent it from wicking up to the surface.
Using a shop-vac. When cleaning stains, this is a huge help. You can repeatedly wash and rinse the area and suck the solution out each time even though you can’t just suck out the stain. Since it’s likely you won’t have the patience to wash, rinse, and extract enough times if you’re using paper towels or cloth, then this is more effective than blotting up the water with cloth.
Why you should vacuum before cleaning. If a portable machine is what you are using, then getting the water as hot as you can is important and quickly dry the carpet by using fans to move the air around. The results of a good truck-mount hot water extraction unit is something you won’t match. But if saving money is what you want to do, then the time between expensive professional cleanings can be lengthened if you do your own cleaning.
Is a carpet clean enough for the kids to play on what you want? Maybe what you also want is for it to last for years longer than normal. Just use these basic carpet care tips.
