Gifts for Someone Down on His or Her Luck

A few days ago, I talked with a family friend who recently learned that his huge manufacturing company was closing his plant. He is actually more fortunat than most of his co-workers. He very recently reached the magic age at which he qualifies for early retirement, so he will continue to have a steady income. Those who did not reach that milestone of the specified number of years with the company will get a small severance package and be left to search for a job in that difficult market. That caused me to think about giving gifts for special occasions to those people who are experiencing difficult economic situations. I came up with a few suggestions that make more sense than a piece of home decor or a new tie. Here are some of them:

A fruit basket is healthy, beautiful, yummy and always enjoyed. If you live near your gift recipient, you can find a lovely basket or other attractive container and fill it with fruit that is in season in your region of the country, obtained at a farmers market, and then fill it out with a few exotic fruits picked up at your neighborhood specialty store. If your loved one is farther away, you can arrange for any of a large range of beautiful fruit gift baskets to be delivered directly to the person’s home. It will help them to reduce their grocery bill that month.

A unique meal is another way to remember a special occasion. One alternative might be to take the friend to a special restaurant. If price is no object to you, be sure to suggest some of the pricier entrees on the menu, so that your guests know that they should not worry about ordering whatever they prefer. For example, you could say something like, “The crab legs are perfect here, but, if you don’t like seafood, try the filet mignon.” If they live too far away for that, you can actually find delicious, gourmet, chef-prepared meals online that arrive frozen and can be heated in almost no time. (I actually keep my freezer stocked with these.) Or you might send a gift certificate to a special place in their town.

You might also consider a tasty dessert. No person should have too many desserts, but on a birthday, anniversary or holiday, everyone deserves an opportunity to indulge a sweet tooth. Bake cookies, if that is a skill of yours, and hand deliver or have them delivered. For something a little more special consider giving them a freshly baked pie or turtle cheesecake. Whether you make it yourself or have others do the work for you doesn’t matter. It will be appreciated and definitely enjoyed either way.

You may observe that all my recommendationinvolve food. Someone who is going through a difficult time may not want to accept charity, but nobody can reject a genuinely special gift. If it reduces the grocery bill by a bit, that’s just a bonus.

Men Despise Shopping! Here’s the Solution!

If you’re a dude that hands out cash as gifts, you must read this article.

When a man enters a shopping mall he will get all freaked out. Women love the mere thought of going shopping. Men would rather shovel a barn stall than go shopping. It’s a rather castrating experience for them. It’s just too much to look through so much stuff.

Men, I know your brain feels cloudy merely thinking about shopping for your lady. Just brew up some fresh roasted coffee and let me do all the work.

A little hint to you girls, if you have something in mind write it down and paste it to your man’s forehead! Keep it to five things – maximum. Make sure to list the price and places to buy the stuff. You must make sure he knows where the list is and keep it updated! Make it easy on your dude. Tell him your special colors and dress size.

Trust me, you need a list! But if you wan’t to wing it here you go. If you are thinking you’ll take the easy way out and buy gift cards – Don’t! Gift cards should only be given to your lady IF she requests them! Also, clothing is completely off limits unless we have sent you in for a specific item, in a specific color and specific size. We have to try on an item and see how it, and the two sizes above and below, fit. Trust me, you don’t know us that well.

The first sure-fire gift is a bouquet of flowers that tells us you have planned dinner out complete with babysitting (for those that have kids) and coffee after. An extravagant meal at a fine restaurant will get you major brownie points. Make sure you think through every detail. You may want to consider reserving a room at a fancy hotel.

The next super great gift is several spa items. Bath salts, scented (or unscented if she has allergies) candles, and a warm soft robe are all items that say, “I want to take care of you.” They are all going to be well received and can be tailored to fit any women’s tastes and interests. For example, there is organic cotton, all the way to fine Egyptian cotton robes. Find the one that best fits your budget.

Still thinking, not quite what you had in mind. You may want to consider candy and coffee. Nearly any woman will melt at the mention of gourmet chocolate and coffee. For a twist you may want to consider Fair Trade chocolates and Fair Trade coffee. An excellent option for the girl that loves her coffee is a coffee of the month club membership from a gourmet coffee roaster. If you don’t know what she likes, then purchase a few different coffees to let her try. One stipulation, do not get any version of canned coffee or “store bought” chocolate. The chocolate must be in a box, or don’t bother.

Another option is an expensive pen and leather bound planner or journal. It is very frustrating to hunt through you purse and not have a pen. Even more frustrating is to hunt for a pen, then find one that doesn’t work. If you want to get a really nice pen look for a Montblanc. A good leather bound journal is worth its weight in gold, and can cost you as much too! So make sure you shop around.

If your lady is into growing things then by all means, a nice potted plant is not out of the question. What woman can resist a beautiful potted flower? Every time she looks at the plant she will think of you!

If you really want to make things easy on yourself, why don’t you just ask your girl what she wants? Who would know better than her? We just need to know how much you are willing to spend. I’ve already given you a good guideline to get you started on your gift buying. Women want to be pampered and adored. We want gifts that reflect our style, and not yours. If all else fails, then a framed picture of the two of you will be enough to get you through this holiday.

If you want an easy out you ought to check out some of the chocolate gifts at Nectar of Life Coffee. They’ve got excellent Fair Trade organic coffee and chocolate!

Don’t fly over the coot’s nest; get a clock that leaves an impression. In general we like to be aware of the time, still some people forget to look at the clocks hanging on the walls and don’t come on time, and so forth. When giving a gift, always consider what the person can use, and what will last.

Some of the clocks available today include the twelve songbird chirping clocks. The clock comes with the history of birds. This clock is commemorative and will trademark the different birds from the Northern American hemisphere. The chirping birds will bring joy to the home while telling time.

The colorful-changing clocks will glow and appears in the colors of rainbows, i.e. green, purple, pink, white, etc. the clock changes sequence with every hours and comes with twelve hues. The clock is cordless making it easy to move around, and has a large LCD displaying numbers that makes it easy for those hard of seeing. During the night, turn off the lightening features, or let them shine. What a magnificent gift idea, since most of us enjoy the beautiful rainbows.

Looking for a great gift idea, try the two-timing clock and lamp combo, whereas you touch the lamp and it either shines or shuts off. The lamp is made of ceramic and shaped like a ball and the brass and metal tones bring in a new twist to décor. The shades are made of glass. The clock runs off battery, so cords are not a problem. Save time, energy and space!

Beer lovers might take delight in the No Drinks clock. This idea clock forbids any drinking before five o’ clock, yet each hand that meets an hour has five o’ clock showing. This is a wacky gift will bring a smile to faces, since a man stands up against an object on the clock, looking like he has had too much.

An idea alarm clock is the talking handsets. The handset talks each time the phone rings letting the owner know the callers number. The phone includes an alarm clock, as well as other features. Get a calendar, phone book, caller ID that talks, alarm clock and more rolled into one affordable gift.

Men might take delight in the talking watches. The watch will tell him the time with a single push of the buttons. The watches are gold, silver designed, and each Quartz watch has a chimer, alarm clock, and temperature gauge. The clocks are idea for anyone who has difficulty seeing, or for those men that merely like it big.

If you are buying a gift for someone that has old-timer watches you might consider the Award Frames. These glass frames have wooden trimmings, and will hold items awarded to the person. The frame will hold army metals, insignias from the army uniforms, watches, pictures, ribbons and more.

This brings to mind another gift idea. Some men enjoy the watches that hang from their truffles. The watches come in gold or silver and often have designs on the back of the watch, e.g. a train. This is an idea watch for younger boys that like the old fashion look, or the elders.

Just remember, if you want to give someone a gift, always start by trying to find out what the person wants and needs. The marketplace has a treasure chest of watches and clocks today, and most times if you use the how to shop strategies you will find the deals of a lifetime.
