Following the launch of Comet’s new clearance auction site, the electrical retailer reveals that some of its customers have paid just £1 for expensive electrical items and kitchen accessories, making savings in some cases of 98%.

With the nation coming out of the back of a national recession, consumers are putting a high priority on saving money. The Comet site therefore comes as a welcome chance to bag some top quality products for bargain prices. The website (clearance-comet.co.uk), gives shoppers the opportunity to make an offer on a variety of products including brand new items, end of line products, refurbished products and customer returns.

Some recent bargains include a Hotpoint freezer, bought by a customer for just £1, when it retails at £199.99. Other home appliance bargains have included:

  • Indesit IWDC612S washer drier, RRP £379, sold for £2
  • A Newworld freezer, with a retail value of £229.99, sold for just £2
  • A Beko gas-cooker, with a retail value of £339.99, sold for just £3
  • Sony DPF-D80/TC 8″ digital photo frame RRP £79.99 sold for £40
  • A Garmin satellite navigation system, with a retail value of £119, sold for just £48
  • Hitachi 19lD5550U 19″ TV with DVD RRP £169.99 sold for £95

Other large electrical appliances on the site include washing machines, dishwashers, fridge freezers and cookers, all on sale for drastically reduced prices.

With many bids starting at just one pound and no reserve prices set, consumers have the opportunity to buy home appliances for a fraction of the retail price; and they still hold a six month warranty. Site users have the option to either bid for products they like or use the ‘Buy Now’ button to make an instant purchase at a reduced price*.

Bill Moir, Comet’s head of marketing, had this to say: “At a time when the whole nation is trying to save money, the Comet site is a savvy option”. The products are either new, end of line, have been on display in store or returned by customers, and if necessary, refurbished so work perfectly. With some going for as little as £1 it’s a real money saver.”
